Success story - Muscoskeletal disease

"I-TMM is a great support in efficiently managing patient adherence in the trial"

One of our clients has incorporated I-TMM in a phase IIb clinical trial of a compound to treat a musculoskeletal disease. The clinical trial is conducted on more than 1000 patients at about 100 clinical sites. Each small improvement in the efficacy measure makes a big difference in the quality life of the patients, but this difference is manifested only after a long period of treatment. The follow-up period for each patient is 2 years. The main challenge of this study is to maintain patient adherence to the treatment, avoiding drug holidays and early discontinuation, when the therapeutic benefit is not immediately observable by the patients. In this case, our client has realized the importance of maximizing drug response and reducing its variance to increase the statistical power of the trial.

Our client finds that I-TMM is a great support in efficiently managing patient adherence in the trial. The study manager was able to see from the patient’s dosing histories that at some clinical sites, patient medication intake came closer to the prescribed regimen. The access to the latest dosing history plays a key role in the patient consultation about medication-taking. The study manager saw not only a difference in medication intake pattern among the patients, but also different levels of patient adherence to the treatment between clinical sites. He was then able to give additional measurement-guided attention to some sites where he could reinforce the importance of patient adherence to the prescribed treatment.
