medAmigo (med=medicine, Amigo=friend) service is an MGMM (Measurement-Guided Medication Management) based program that provides hard data on patient’s drug dosing history, showing occurrences of errors that can jeopardize treatment outcomes: missed evening doses, drug holidays, extra missed doses during weekends, variability in dosing times. By dispelling uncertainty about medication-taking, the medAmigo service sets the stage for focused dialogue between the healthcare providers and their patients, increasing the quality of the management time spent.
These never-before-available data give healthcare providers the objective means to help their patients get the fullest possible benefit from the medicines they prescribe.
The medAmigo service was developed in collaboration with doctors, nurses and pharmacists in many countries to make it possible for healthcare providers and their patients to confidently recognize suboptimal dosing. medAmigo is an ongoing patient program, created to achieve optimal use of prescribed medication. It keeps patients focused on the use of their medications, while guiding them to dose properly.
In more detail, the medAmigo service will help healthcare providers:
- to collect real-time dosing histories to learn how the patient is actually taking his/her medicines,
- to understand and analyze their patient's medication-taking patterns so that this information can be correlated with clinical information, especially in situations in which the patient’s responses to treatment have been disappointing,
- to develop individualized strategies for interventions to improve adherence with the prescribed regimen,
- to provide effective reminder cues to help patients achieve punctual dosing,
- to improve the use of drug response as a diagnostic tool, by objectively identifying poor adherence as the basis for poor' or non-response,
- to avoid needless escalation in the doses or numbers of prescribed doses when the reason for disappointing clinical results is poor' or non-adherence,
- to improve care and reduce the potential for unscheduled clinic visits, emergency room visits, and hospitalizations.
